Tindaya

Tindaya is  a quiet  goating village surrounded by mountains.
It is best known for the monument to Miguel de Unamuno on the side of the mt. Quemada that can be seen from the main road.

The village is sited at the foot of the 401m Tindaya mountain and is in a protected zone.

Tindaya was once regarded as a religious place and the mountain is considered to be sacred. you can still see the carvings of feet or phodomorphs up the side of the mountain they where discovered in 1978.

From the top it is possible to see Mount Teide on a clear day the highest mountain on Tenerife, it is said that Mount Teide is the home of the devil and all carvings face this way to ward off demons.

The mountain tindaya is made from hard rock that defies erosion but when smoothed and treated makes a nice feature. The walls of the airport are decorated by this stone.

Although Tindaya is in land you can get to the Tindaya beaches from a dirt track that leads from the village, It is rough going and not advised to try it by car although you can manage it if you have a 4x4 although insurance is not really covered to go off road, it is the only way to see most of the island. If you do find it, It is a lovely little beach very calm, a lot of campers go here in the summer months, though at  other times it is quiet deserted.

The track down to the beach from Tindaya village is hard going but it is worth it
