La Lajita

Lajita is a small fishing village on the east coast in the south of the island it has been made popular with the introduction of the fairly new attraction of the Oasis Park Zoo and botanical gardens, they have a safari park with camels and horses so you can have a ride, they have a selection of animals, reptiles, primates and small mammals, and birds but the parrot shows are extremely good.

The botanical gardens are set in180,000 square meters of land and has thousands of species of cacti and fauna on display, the zoo is set in 200,000 square meters of luch tropical landscape, you can experience the thrill of a ride in a convoy as they travel across the dunes.

If you have to wait for any time you can sit under the palm trees at the zoo's bar,the place is just off the main road and a short distance from the village where you can find a few seafood restaurants that are popping up there.

Oasis de los camellos zoo is open from 9am till 7.30 pm through the sumer and 9am till 6pm through the winter and is well worth the visit, there is a small cafe and souvenirs shop at the zoo and are good value for money as is the zoo.

They have the biggest cacti i have ever seen and can be seen around the zoo gardens but if you want to see more then you are in for a real treat.
