Costa Caleta de Fuste
Costa Caleta formally known as Caleta de Fuste is on the east coast of the island and about 15 minutes from the Matorral airport, it is Fuerteventura's busiest holiday resort also known as El Castillo it has a castle that is situated next to the harbor and is worth a visit.
The name Castillo is taken from the word castle and a fuste was a light fishing vessel that was anchored there for the service of the island, the castle was built in 1743 by a military engineer Claudio de Lisne and is a familiar sight to visitors by the busy harbor, it has been restored and is floodlit at night and makes for a beautiful back drop for lazy warm nights.
The water center also at the harbor hosts many activities such as Diving Wind Surfing, sailing, boat trips and a Catamaran.
Trips out on the catamaran go out almost daily weather permitting to see the turtles and some times even whales and dolphins, you can go diving with them too if you wish,a meal is served on board and is most enjoyable, trips cost around 42 euros per adult and 21 euros for children,times 12.30 out bound 16.30 return you will find this at the marina at the harbor and also the oceanarium where you can see the fish swimming close up.
The Deep Blue diving school is conveniently placed by the harbor, the cost of a single dive is about 27 euros and a package of 10 costs around 200 euros,they do courses for beginners and for children's lessons around 36 euros, Or try windsurfing at the Fantastic Fun Centre between the port and the beach at the barcelo club, beginners courses cost around 92 euros for 6 hr lessons and 143 euros for 12 hrs including equipment hire, equipment hire alone costs 30 euros per 1/2 day 42 euros for a day and 150 euros for a weeks hire.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Caleta de fuste with Greek, Chinese, Mexican, Indian and English all at affordable prices, the night life is mainly in the form of music bars but the resort family clubs are good for the children with plenty of entertainment and of course'' happy hour'' for the mums and dads when you can get two drinks for the price of one.With plenty of gift shops,boutiques, supermarkets,electrical and many more to tempt you and of course the very popular Saturday market.
Caleta is the perfect resort for young families the man made beach in a horse shoe shape is peaceful and safe for the children with calm crystal clear water, sometimes you can see the fish swimming in the shallows as the tide comes in, it has a barrier so you can't go out too far and it safe for young and old to swim or dive.
Caleta being central along the coast line makes it the ideal place to hire a jeep or car and to go explore the island, although you can get a bus about every 30 minutes you are limited to where you can go on the island, by jeep you can get almost anywhere.
New beaches are being built further up at the new resort of Costa Caleta, you can walk along the promenade to them and to the new shopping complex that has been built there, in all a good place for families,There is also a new golf course opposite the new shopping complex at Costa Caleta.
